Learn How Technology Can Help You
“BIST has helped me recover from a concussion with individual and group support, community events and educational materials. It operates on a shoestring but punches way above its weight in service delivery and support for Torontonians with brain injuries. BIST’s thoughtful programming by committed staff and volunteers daily improves the quality of life for its members and their families.”
“BIST is a great place to connect with people who understand what we are going through. They have different activities that we can join and relax. Thank you BIST for always being there when we need you.”
“When I talk to people on the phone, they usually just hang up on me or don’t talk to me or whatever. Because I get frustrated sometimes. Sometimes I don’t know how to keep calm.It is much easier when I have a support worker helping me with my cases and stuff like that. Because if I didn’t have them it would be really hard to explain what my problems are.
“BIST is the best organization and so friendly. I have only good things to say about them. Flexible program, excellent support from every angle. The management team were instrumental in my recovery to the workforce as a caregiver of a family member. I value all activities organized as they are well done and focused on the cause. Their business model works very well. Always there to help and improve the quality of life of people affected by this condition and also the caregivers.”
“I don’t remember [going to court] because I have seizures and stuff like that.I don’t know how it feels like for [BIST Transitional Support Coordinator, Laura] to go to the courts with me because I can’t’ remember anything. I know Laura did everything she can for me.
It’s good having a support person because it’s hard for us.”
“I had some difficulties that I couldn’t do by myself. I really appreciate BIST’s kindness and thoughtfulness. I wish I knew this organization at least 3 years ago. ”
“BIST has been a crucial support for my husband who is a ABI survivor and myself as a caregiver. As an artist, i’ve also been so impressed with BIST’s commitment to integrating arts and healing and was thrilled to partner with them for a performance we created, Brainstorm, which dealt with living with a brain injury. Their support and collaboration was meaningful and so rewarding. ”
When I didn’t have [BIST Transitional Support Coordinator] Laura, I was down the drain. But if I had Laura right from the start? Ohh – do you know how many things I would have been good with? I would have been so happy. … I would have been so much better because people would have treated me better and wouldn’t have taken me for a fool. ”
